How Your Home Reflects Your Inner Life
What area of your home has the most amount of clutter? What room is decorated in a way that doesn’t align with your soul?
Many years ago, my least favorite room was my bedroom, and after going through years of infertility, Oprah’s life coaching columnist, Dr. Martha Beck, coached me on how my space was affecting my unfulfilled dream.
She suggested that if I wanted to get pregnant, it might be a good idea to love the room where the miracle of life happens! Our bedrooms can be a sanctuary for deep slumber and romance, and in my case, the color on the wall (a reddish brown) was one I immediately regretted after I painted it. I had spent so much energy doing the manual labor of painting with my own two hands, that I convinced myself to just live with it.
Years later, (after becoming a Certified Martha Beck Life Coach) at an Arcade Fire concert, I fell in love with the vibrant purple lighting effect. It truly bore into my soul. It spoke to me and said that I must recreate this effect in my bedroom. I immediately hired a wallpaper handy person and bought a light in the exact shade of purple that I craved. Within months I was pregnant.
Of course, I’m not saying that painting your bedroom the color you want will guarantee results of creating life. That is something only whatever created us has the power to control. However, I believe that committing to what lights you up, creating an environment and energy around yourself that makes you feel comfortable and happy will draw you closer to your dream life. Clearing the clutter (in my case a paint color I hated) may very well have made me a mom.
This concept of the space we live in impacting the corresponding area of our life works in other rooms as well. Kitchen clutter can lead to an over-reliance on fast-food and ultimately dietary issues. Living room clutter can harm your relationships when there is no where to intimately hang out in a calm space without being rushed by a waitress or disturbed by loud noise. If your office is cluttered, you might be struggling to make a living because you can’t find anything or stay focused.
No matter where your clutter accumulates the most, I can help. I can take you from chaos to order with patient, gentle guidance. I have over 20 years of experience helping people get organized, and I’d love to see if we are a good fit. Schedule a free 15 minute call below.
