Getting Ready for A Home Sale
It’s been a busy summer helping clients get organized! Many of you are busy getting ready to sell your home.
The home-selling process can be exhausting, so to prevent overwhelm, here’s a checklist of potential tasks before the first showing:
Outdoors:
Get your home pressure washed
Paint doors and shutters a contrasting color that matches the overall home decor (red, blue, and yellow are popular colors).
Replace shabby outdoor fixtures such as mailboxes, lights, and address numbers.
Buy a new welcome mat.
Hire a landscaper to add some fast-growing trees that thrive in your climate.
Add evergreen plants to make for a verdant entry.
Add outdoor seating.
Reseal your driveway.
Have your roof and gutters cleaned.
Indoors:
Remove your clutter and if needed, put it in storage so that buyers will be able to visualize themselves living there.
Remove unnecessary furniture to make the house feel bigger.
Arrange living room furniture away from walls.
Make sure there is an office area (many people work from home nowadays).
Remove family photos, kids artwork, diplomas, and other personal artwork, and add impersonal but attractive artwork.
Buy some fresh towels, scented candles, and fancy soaps to place in the bathroom to make it feel like a spa.
Ensure your kitchen has both overhead and task lighting.
Bedrooms that have overhead and bedside lamps are appealing.
Hide everything pet-related in your car, and take your animals elsewhere for the showing.
Replace worn-out bedspreads with a wrinkle-free duvet and buy some fluffy decorative shams and pillows.
Make sure your window treatments look brand new and are installed professionally (unless you are handy).
